One thing that Japan nails is anime series but anime films always seem to go a little under the radar. I think it'd be interesting if people could recommend some of their favorite anime films!
Some of my personal favorites are Perfect Blue (A massive mindfuck similar to black swan), Summer wars (the digimon movie on steroids) and sword of the stranger (a samurai action film which honestly brought out dem feelz).

Well, some good ones I have watched are Battle Royale, which is basically a surprisingly meaningful death match starring the students of a high school class (similar to Hunger Games, even though I haven't seen it myself) and Crows Zero, a fighting movie in which various gangs of students compete in order to gain control of their high school, kinda more of a "omg so cool moves" film, but still has its moments. HIGH SCHOOL POWAH !
EDIT: And on a completely different note, we were talking about anime moves, not real action, but those are still based on mangas, SO I AM COOL.

That movie is so OP that i have already watched it more than 4 times.
As for the movies, do movies like the evangelion, trigun and kara no kyoukai ones count as legit?
Anyways Tokyo Godfathers and Break Blade movies are really nice :)

Battle royale!! YEAH!! Don't even compare it to hunger games...hunger games is so lame and gay compared to Battle Royale!

Spirited away (Childhood's best anime film) Summer wars (Just lovely) Akira (My absolute favorite) Howl moving castle (lovely) Redline (Recent film with unlikely animation and a rating of 7/10 from me)
I watched them all and do recommend them.

Thought I'd bump this up again to recommend the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya which I think may now be my favorite anime film... Only set back is that you have to watch the show to get the full impact.

Not anime films, but The Brotherhood of War and Back to 1942 are 2 of the best movies ive ever watched. especially brotherhood of war which is soooo f*ckin emotional, especially the ending , too bad it wasnt on EU and US cinemas , coz it would have nailed the box office.
