it seems more like an ultra-blurred background rather than a smudge :( Personally, i can't even do that, but i think you will get to it if you keep practicing!
Well, I wouldn't say it's super blurred, I was capturing something. Like I said I figured out how to use smudge tool, this was just a random thing trying something with a different type of style.

The smudge looks nice too, but from my smudging experience, actually just about two months xD, I am telling u that smudge have to always be sharp, really sharp,(gonna make a thread with an example soon).
Let me give u some smudging tips that will make u a pro from the very second try, this was my second try:

Make the smudging sharp, be careful when u choose the render, never follow smudging tuts, they always make it look so complicated with the settings and all, always keep it simple :D

Yes I know, I did something like the picture you showed at school. For smudging tutorial it just depends what you look at. All I wanted to know on how to get a type of pattern style and so far I actually found one good one that shows that. Like I said I didn't have too much time and I was tired so I didn't feel like doing patterns so instead I decided to capture something.
