If you watch my video for the battle vs Lrs you will see i still didnt knew what it was midway on the making of the video
but i hade no time to fix all scenes after ...

If you have the same problem the reason this happens is because the episodes you have are in "10bit" .

I had this problem sometimes too, but i just re-downloaded the episodes from a different source lol cause i dont know how to use avisynth It's Happening! 727317512

the way i do it i dont convert anything ever
what i do is a series of things.

Avsp : opens any shource and lets you add filters to clean the footage then you save the "script"

VDUB : importing the script here and simply selecting an area of the episode and then rendering it in a lossless format

(i have 2 hard disks each 2tb , depending on how big the scene you selected the size goes up exp:20 seconds are 600mb)
you will ask now why... well maybe you have a nasa computer i dont know but when i add effects on a clip it lags
files that arent compressed lets you edit them easier (faster) and also you dont lose any quallity from the original video file.

AE : EDIT

PS : EDIT when EDIT alone just isnt enought

ZX264 : Best video encoder i know when it comes to size and quallity.

Try do this without following the vdub step.
40 video files playing at the same time with camera moving them on 3d space while adding blurs and effects
It will take forever to do the camera movents after
Adding effects on top of that ? rolf
Atleast with my pc i would give up after an hour max
Because ae doesnt need to decompress the files it works faster.

I used it a lot in the previous ic and saved me a lot of time so i can really see what you point is,
but damn where the hell should i get two 2tb hard drives, im broke lol.
I should try and learn the avisynth thing, been putting it off for a while now, seems it's really good for cleaning scenes!

The 10 to 8 bit conversion works with the same way as a script. Its just that instead of using a GUI (user interface) it uses command prompt. The mp4 container though is one of the worst in terms of performance, quality and compression. Thats why AE lags when importing mp4 footage. (Just keep in mind the original source you are using is compressed so exporting uncompressed doesnt change much in the quality rather than speed and ease of use)

Yup AVSP + VDub is your best choice in case you want uncompressed footage as maik said. Converting the way i linked is the "poor man's way" if you dont have much space available.
