I will start saving for a better PC soon as mine is really old. I know everything factors in when it comes to editing.
But can anyone recommend the sort of spec I should look on getting to help vegas run as smooth as possible and a reduced rendering time would also help.

The best one to answer you this is Mrpampouks but i suppose that a very good ram is the first thing that you should have in mind

hahaha thanks for the vote of confidence nikos XD Well Tommy, it depends on how much money you can spend on that :)
For video editting you will need a good CPU (phenom II X4 / X6 , core i-3/i-5/i-7), RAM 4GB (it's enough i think), Nvidia 1GB/2GB GFX card (i would recommend you not buying an AMD/ATI gfx card because their drivers suck a lot). That's it i think :)

it's better to get a good cpu as Sony Vegas depends more on cpu than ram :) while rendering if you open Task manager you can see that Vegas will use almost 98% of each core of your cpu :) (You can extend your RAM whenever you want, if you have about 30-40 euros but in order to change your cpu you will probably need to change your motherboard too.. so it's better to get a good cpu for now and then extend your RAM)
