| looking on gettin a PC as this laptop is bad: Genuine Intel (R) CPU T2250 @ 1.73 GHz RAM 2GB 86.3 HDD
I don't wna spend too much at the moment though. can anyone recommend a minimum spec for getting a desktop PC, which will help the following run smoothly:
Sony Vegas 10/11 ( newblue, magic bullet looks etc ) General Video Streaming ( online & hd playback on media player etc )
maybe you guys could let me know what your running?

| If you're going to buy a pc,i suggest you go all out,so your pc can keep up with everything for 5+ years,if you spend the minimum then it'll be a top notch rig for only 2 maybe 3 years, upgrading is something i don't recommend.
I suggest you check some pcs that you currently can't afford but you can try the per month payment,i'm sure you'll work it out in a 12 month long payment timetable
Last but not least NOT A BLOODY LAPTOP

| i disagree with "da guy above" ... Technology progresses in a really fast pace now.. so spending 1k or even 2k euros for a pc (with the thought that it will last for about 3-5 years) is pointless... in 3-5 years there will be 8-core processors (there are already some cpus (AMD) which are equipped with 8 cores) So what i say is that you should get a "good" pc for the time being and in 2 years buy a new one ;) Prices are too low these days with all this economic crisis thing :P so with about 800-1000 euros you can get a really good computer which will be running the latest programms for the next 2 years ;) - my current specs:
Intel Core i-3 2.3GHz 4GB RAM 320GB HDD 1GB ATI HD (don't remember the number :S) Windows 7 64bit
I can run Vegas 11, After Effects (even though i haven't really used it), Photoshop, Gimp
As for multi-tasking, i can Render in 1080p in Vegas in the same time with Playing LoL without lagging xD (with google chrome running)
and yeah IT IS A LAPTOP!
what you should buy in my opinion would be a pc with the following specs: cpu: Intel Core i-5 / i-7 (if i-5 then make sure that there are 4 physical cores and not 2.. coz the sellers take advantage of your "not knowing" these stuff and sell you a cpu with 2 physical cores while they say it has got 4... Intel has implemented a program in its cpus which can split each physical core into 2 logical cores, that program is called Intel Hyper-Threading) 4-8GB RAM 1-2 GB Nvidia GFX card (imo ATI is not as good as nvidia in terms of support and drivers) 500GB HDD Windows 7 64 bit (if they offer you to pre-buy Windows 8 don't do it...) xD with those specs you can easily and smoothly run After Effects and every other program ;) The only problem with laptops is the overheating... if you think you can handle that then go for a laptop ;) portability is really good :)

| Crookz, noobs gonna hate,i guarantee you that if you buy a good 1k rig today that it will last for at least 4+ years, running the latest games/softwares with little to no effort, even if they go all out and make 20-core cpus everything will still be able to run just fine on an i5,you don't want to even imagine how much that 8-core will cost when it will come out, let's say it comes out in 4 years...it'll be purchasable for poor guys like us at another 2-3 years.
Go and buy the pc of your dreams once and it will last you maybe more than half a decade

| Thanks for the opinions guys and thanks alot for the detail nikos. What I've been looking at is around:
i3/i5 4/6gb ram 1tb hdd also not sure about graphics? would intel HD graphics be sufficient?
they cost between 400 - 600 english pounds including the screens depending on what end of the processor/ram I want. appreciate the feedback ^^
